Tae Kwon-Do literally means

"The way of foot and fist"

Tae Kwon-Do was founded in South Korea

on 11th April 1955

by Major General Choi Hong Hi (9th Dan)

who later passed away on 15th June 2002

The 5 Tenets of Tae Kwon-Do are:

  1. Courtesy
  2. Integrity
  3. Perseverance
  4. Self Control
  5. Indomitable Spirit

Tae Kwon-Do came to the UK in 1967

Where we practice ITF style Tae Kwon-Do

The Tae Kwon-Do Association of Great Britain (T.A.G.B.)

Was founded in August 1983

The Chairman is
Grand Master David Oliver (9th Dan)

The Vice Chairman is
Grand Master Michael Dew (9th Dan)

The British Tae Kwon-Do Council (B.T.C.)

Is a governing body that was established in conjunction with the Sports Council to unify and oversee the development of all styles of Tae Kwon-Do in the UK.

It was founded on 21st April 1988

Tae Kwon-Do International (T.K.D.I)

Is a worldwide organisation.

It was founded on 13th November 1993

10th Kup White Belt

White Belt signifies

Innocence, that of the beginner who has no previous knowledge of Tae Kwon-Do

9th Kup White Belt Yellow Tag

Yellow Belt signifies

Earth, from which a plant sprouts and takes root as the Tae Kwon-Do foundation is being laid

8th Kup Yellow Belt

Green Belt signifies

The plants growth, as Tae Kwon-Do skills begin to develop

6th Kup Green Belt

Blue Belt signifies

Heaven, toward which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Tae Kwon-Do progresses

4th Kup Blue Belt

Red Belt signifies

Danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and warning the opponent to stay away

2nd Kup Red Belt

Black Belt is the opposite to white so signifies

Maturity and proficiency in Tae Kwon-Do.

It also symbolises the wearer's imperviousness to darkness and fear.
